Calm Before The Storm
A hurricane is coming. Gordon is expected to be a category one by the time it reaches us. Not so scary as hurricanes go, but once you have been through a destroyer like Katrina, all hurricanes bring on the nerves. The obvious, and the ones you seek to hide, even from yourself...
I am blipping a photo from last week. One of those that conveys a stillness that hardly seems possible. This now moment seems the opposite; the air is positively buzzing with the oncoming storm, the hurricane preparations keeping people very, very busy... Yet the sun is out. The recent rains on pause before the predicted onslaught.
I turn to blip to try to find some focus, while inside the frightened child is turning every which way, wondering where to hide so that no one knows she needs to hide. The adult me will be carrying on. She has already seen that outside objects are secure or brought inside away from the prospected 70 mile an hour winds.
But where will she stay tonight? Will sleep be even possible? Probably not, whether here or at my daughter's house. And I have Lumen and Pearl to think about, no matter that a part of me is cringing from the call to be responsible. Don't worry Leify, it's just another storm. Here comes the rain... Here comes the sun... Confusion! And a smidgeon of calm...
