Roman Merida

Three hours and 200 miles of rolling empty Autovia Ruta de la Plata (Spain's Route 66, yes truly) took me to Merida and 35 degrees C. Lots of signs to Portugal as we're near the border.

And since I'm on a roll with world heritage UNESCO sites it was off into Roman Merida for an intense afternoon imagining myself in the first few centuries AD and feeling gobsmacked by the impressive theatre, amphitheatre, aqueducts and bridge, villa mosaics, temple of Diana plus a vast circus where chariot races were held. Phew. Dinner after dark!
