Chemin des Dolmens

Down to the valley for some shopping and a short stroll. Over the last year, the department has set up five walks focusing on dolmens, Bronze Age burial chambers. With over 900 in the Ardeche, they form a significant part of the archaeological record and there are more in the Department than in any other one.
Labeaume has more in the commune than any other and so must be a real centre for them. Certainly a short stroll of about two kilometres revealed six dolmens of which this image is one. The downside was that even though we are getting towards the end of August, it was unbearably hot walking around in the valley. It was a pleasure to get back to the relative cool of the mountain after our Lidl visit.
