A bright Spring morning...
...began in the kitchen where I made delicious parsley soup (Digby Law's recipe) and stewed a bowl full of apples for our breakfasts before descending to the stitching cave to finish this quilt by hand stitching the binding in place ,then embroidering and appliquéing my name as maker to the reverse side (as encouraged by the experts).
One blogger puts it this way...
Quilts have a tendency to find their way to thrift stores, garage sales, and even the garbage. They get used as dog blankets, picnic blankets, moving blankets... A friend of mine once said, "I don't know who made this quilt but we use it for picnics all the time."
"I don't know who made this quilt."
My heart breaks a little bit every time I hear that.
Labels are that moment in time where we actually get to acknowledge our accomplishment. Where this might seem self-serving it actually isn't. You're serving other people in this act that'll take you 30 minutes. It preserves your history. Tells a story. Highlights who you loved enough to make a quilt for them. Or what's important to you.
People are interested in other people's lives. When we label our quilts we're giving those who come after us puzzle pieces or, maybe more apt, bread crumbs, on a trail to discover who we are.
So...please start labeling your quilts.
