My life in a day?

1825

Milestone, apparently!
more
1825 is famous for a couple of things.

Parliament, including Robert Peel - that bloke off of series 2 of Victoria - were debating the Cotton Mills Regulations.  Hansard records Dr Lushington stating: "And be it enacted that from and after the passing of this act, no child under six years of age shall be compelled to work more than eleven hours a day.

Also of note, the first 'modern' stock market crash!
Wikipedia says: "Scottish adventurer Gregor MacGregor issues a £300,000 loan with 2.5% interest, through the London bank of Thomas Jenkins & Company, for the fictitious Central American republic of Poyais. His actions lead to the Panic of 1825, the first modern stock market crash, in England."
The crash caused the closure of six London Banks and 60 county banks.  the Bank of England was only bailed out with buckets of gold from the Bank of France!

plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

Here's to the next 1825
