Goodbye Monaco
We had a wonderful dinner last night to celebrate my birthday - the hotel restaurant had a terrace that overlooked the marina and it was a pleasant evening to sit out there enjoying the view. I have added an extra of our cruise boat which was still in the marina when we were having dinner - it departed before our dinner was finished and we felt sad to see it go, off on another voyage to somewhere exciting.
This morning the boys stayed at the hotel to enjoy the gym and the pool, while Gavin and I went to visit the palace and the little village that surrounds the palace up on the hill above the main town of Monaco. It was all very neat and clean, perfectly pristine with the buildings all painted in ice cream colours. The royal family have certainly have their fair share of sadness and scandal with all three children having had very unstable relationships and husbands coming and going. This is a view from the palace over Monaco. It is certainly very densely populated with high rise apartments cheek by jowl.
We then turned to the hotel, packed up and got a taxi to Nice Airport. We had an uneventful flight home and now are facing the usual post-holiday business of opening 2 weeks of mail and dealing with laundry. It has been the most wonderful holiday but now it's back to the usual routines again.
