Dismantling the chimney...

Time to dismantle the 100 year-old chimney which has been an exit flue for everything from sawdust to coal to oil, and for the last twenty years or so, a natural gas pipe running up the chimney's interior, exiting the gas furnace. It's a challenging job, both atop the steep roof and in the attic, as you can see from the extra. The tilt of the old chimney in the attic (due to poor planning on the part of the builder) made the possibility of its collapse in the event of an earthquake even more likely. I'm grateful to Kent for suggesting it when I called to have the mortar replaced.
