Afternoon Bath

It's been an exceptionally gloomy day providing little motivation to go outside, but it didn't stop the birds. I stood at the kitchen window and snapped pictures of them as they enjoyed their baths. This water feature seems to become the exclusive domain of the smallest birds.

The hummingbirds are always there first thing in the morning and are the most vigorous bathers, but spend a lot of time chasing away interlopers.  The goldfinches and house finches  seem more amenable to sharing and often settle in as if having a good soak. I loved the little fellow coming in for a landing while the other one watched.

I'm putting a picture of Daniella and me in extras. Someone at their party apparently took it with my phone . There was much dancing, a groaning board (our folding table as it turns out) an encounter with the infamous neighbor with the bonfire, lots of prosecco with Aperol and no furniture. Only the Marshall speaker in the corner of the room and strings of lights had been kept out of the box which was shipped off with all their possessions in it last week. As we made out way to the door across the dance floor there was dancing to the Bee Gees 'Stayin' Alive.

I'm hoping the ladies in the neighborhood will be able to convene one last time with Dani tomorrow to take her out to lunch after she has fed us so many times. We were supposed to go today but several people seem to have been struck down with some bug. Not a good send off....
