Chain-geable
We've hired bikes as Hannah and I are both keen cyclists (not of the lycra-clad variety). In the morning we cycled to scoff some delicious cheesy pannenkoeken. The Dutch do pancakes bloody well.
We were intermittently dumped on by showers so sat out most of the morning in the hotel room. We then pedalled about all afternoon, in the central area, into the suburbs, across housing estates, through tunnels, around parks and over bridges. Only a few times did we have to seek shelter under ledges or in doorways. Cycling is the best way to travel and is particularly great in Amsterdam as it is almost completely flat. In the evening we restocked our reserves with Greek food, which was essentially a dirty kebab masquerading as a restaurant meal.
During the aftermath of one shower, a street sweeper brushed a plastic penis into my path as we zipped along a bike lane. An hilarious reminder of the number of hen dos where they are essential accessories for a wild night.
I tried some minty shisha in the evening in one of Amsterdam's lounges. I enjoyed it but the smoke-filled room made for a heady mix that left me woozy after a couple of hours. The city has various shisha and marijuana cafes that can choke you as you walk past. They're the adult version of LUSH stores on the UK high street.
