Nuts!

I must have passed this walnut tree in Morningside almost every day for over 20 years and I don't think I have ever seen such a good crop on it as it has this year.
I don't know if the nuts will mature fully, but it is a really unusual sight here in Edinburgh.
You can make a beautifully rich brown dye from the outer husks. I think the dye was popular during the war years for staining legs when stockings were not available.
