Northern Belle

Today's the day ……………………….. for a private charter

The 'Northern Belle'  passed through Carnforth Station today on its way northwards - presumably on a private charter.

It was full of children in party mode and they all looked as if they were having a great time.  I hope they appreciated the luxurious décor and the gourmet food that's normally on offer (at extortionate prices).  The sort of thing shown here.

It stopped at Carnforth to take on more West Coast Rail  staff so I had time to go and see the vintage diesel engine that was pulling all those carriages.  Imagine my delight when I saw that it was the Brush Class 57/6 diesel No. 57601 commonly known as 'Sheila'  (yes, really!) - and what's more, she came into service on 25th August 1964 - exactly 54 years to the day.

I gave her a cheery wave and she went on her way - I like to think, both of us enriched by the experience ……………………….
