Trapani, Sicily

Due to the high winds yesterday one could feel the motion of the boat last night - usually it is like a floating hotel and you can barely tell that you are moving. We arrived in Trapani, Sicily, at about 7am this morning. I always like to see the boat coming in to these tiny little natural harbours, so we were already up and I was taking photos from the uppermost deck. Then I enjoyed the views as I did my morning run on the outside jogging track which seems to go so quickly as I am enjoying the views so much.

Trapani has a charming old town with very narrow streets and no pavements, which makes it a bit tricky to walk around as there are little cars everywhere who don’t have the British attitude of stopping at pedestrian crossings. It is known for its salt marshes and in recent years the salt industry has been revived. This image is of the bay just after sunrise and you can see the salt marshes shimmering in the light on the right of the image. I have added an extra of the promontory which is the entrance to the harbour, in the early morning blue light, and another of the view of the town from the boat.

After lazy breakfast - I have a fruit platter and an egg white omelette or oats, but the boys have….fruit, oats, egg white omelette, scrambled eggs with bacon, mushrooms and tomato and then finish off with French toast which looks delicious, a thick wedge of soft bread covered in syrup and expertly decorated with bits of fruit. Followed by cappuccino or espressos, and then a smoothie of whatever takes your fancy! We walked into town and explored a few of the streets and churches - sadly in one church they were preparing for a funeral and someone was very upset and crying so we did not linger.

We had lunch on the boat, and then just lazed about all afternoon. We set sail at 3pm for our next destination which is Olbia in Sardinia. Luke has been working on his essays and is nearly finished which is good. Its a good format to visit the towns in the morning and relax in the afternoon.

Later this afternoon we are going to do the trivia quiz again, they are fun. The first day we did it we were joined by a lovely man from Dublin, and we bumped into him at lunch today and he confirmed he will join us again which is great as his general knowledge is very good!
