Canadian Pipes and Drums at Scone Palace
What a breakfast; mixed fruit salad, organic Scots porage, full Scottish breakfast, toast, croissants and coffee. That set us up well for a visit to Scone Palace, the spiritual home of the Scots. It was a wonderful visit, with a very interesting tour of the house which described both the history of the house and gave an insight into the people who live and lived in the palace over the centuries.
And, of course Scone is the place where Scottish kings have been crowned over hundreds of years and where the rich and powerful met and fought for power. A replica Stone of Destiny stands outside the Chapel, attracting the attention of many people.
It was good to see the Pipe and Drum band playing outside the Palace, seemed to be the right place for their performance. A spot of rain sent us into the cafe for coffee and shared scone (of the cake variety)
From the Palace we walked from the B&B to the summit of Kinhoull Hill for a fine view over the Tay Valley, (extra) great light as showers chased across the mountains. Didn’t quite make it to the Tower.
Back in the B&B we had time to speak to Chris in California to wish him a happy birthday before setting off to the Tabla Indian restaurant which turned out to be an excellent choice as the two dishes we chose were the best curries we’ve had for many a year.
