Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Not as good as I remembered...

Anne came round for a last session with Archie - she's going back to live in America, and take up the most amazing job - managing an outdoor sculpture park.

JR popped down town to her favourite shop to buy a new hair drier - we tried one at the hotel that did cool air as well, so had to have one.

I sauntered across to Bruntsfield on an errand, but it felt odd to be in the Links without Archie.

Our bathroom lady came to see the space and measure up. We need to get a joiner organised to take down the kitchen wall and put up the new bathroom wall. This needs to be done before the bathroom folk begin. And we have a date for that - beginning of November! And we're on holiday for a month between now and then. It'll be great a miracle if it all works out without too much stress.

Went up the hill later to meet Bailey and her mum. It was a lovely evening, with terrific clouds (Extra). The dogs did quite a bit of running between us - Bailey flies like the wind, with Archie lumbering along yards behind her. But he tries.

I happened to watch a bit of 'A Hard Day's Night', which was on TV this afternoon. It was puerile - terrible acting, corny dialogue, bad miming. But I remember being beside myself with joy when I watched it at the cinema. In fact, in those days, the film just started again, so you could sit there and see it twice without paying, which I did, and was late home and got into bother.

My favourite programme tonight - Orangutan School. What gorgeous little creatures they are. Except for the big aggressive dominant males, of course. Plus ça change...
