Red tide....back blip
We had a "crab run" red tide? today. It was one of the biggest we have ever had. The crabs ran all day and when it was to dark to see they were still on the shore. We kept a bushel of #1 male crabs and some peelers. We will share the crabs with my sister, brother-in-law and family since they are from out of town and do not get crabs very often. We will also see to it they enjoy the soft crabs as they shed and will use the dead peelers for bait when we take them fishing.
The tide came at the perfect time to insure there was plenty of everything for our guests to enjoy! The shore line as far as you could see was covered with crabs. Hubby and I were the only ones crabbing. The crabs do not die they just come in close because the oxygen levels drop when the algae blooms or when we have a hot spell and then the temperature drops 20 degrees or more.
