knocked abaht a bit".  St Ives bridge.  The two rounded arches mark the place where it was rebuilt after the English Civil war,  The New Army, under Oliver Cromwell, had knocked down these two spans and placed a drawbridge there, to frustrate the Royalist forces in their march on London.  Information received from the pilot of the boat which took three of us on a delightful trip up the river.  It is one of four bridges in England with a Medieval chapel built into it.
