Trakai

Vilnius has been wonderful and I certainly didn’t feel ready to leave. I’ll be back.

We made the long journey through the Lithuanian countryside as far as Rīga, the capital of Latvia.

Very soon after we had set off we arrived at the castle of Trakai, built in various stages from the 14th Century and meticulously restored by local craftsmen over the last 30 years. It was the second capital of Lithuania (Vilnius was the third and the first was Kernaves at a relatively early stage of excavation.)

Trakai is stunning, and fascinating.

We then drove through amazingly beautiful and peaceful scenery. I really would love to explore this delightful, friendly and quiet country.

But we head on......it’s proving a super adventure.
