'Behold, Look, here God lives among us!'
The quote is the translation from the latin inscription that is above the grand west face of Christchurch's Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. When you think about it, that's quite a statement considering what the city, and it's holy places, have been through since 4/9/2010.
It's no secret that the basilica is in somewhat of a sorry state, but for those outside of Christchurch the headlines are reserved for the Anglican Christ Church Cathedral in Cathedral Square. In fact you'd be forgiven for thinking that only one church in the city had been badly affected by the quakes, where in fact it is the majority (see my St Michael's blip for more info on this topic).
So on a day that protestors claim a small victory for the cessation on the demolition of the Anglican Cathedral (and of course the City's Anniversary day) I thought we could do with a reminder of how things are with our other great house of worship.
As an aside, I got this angle by standing through the sunroof on the truck. With all the chain link fencing around, it really was the only way to ensure a clear view.
This is also my first blip with my D300. So far, so good (and I've remained away from the dark side)
