Picking figs
G rigged up a fig picker using a can with serrated edges that he cut with metal snips, a pole and some duct tape. He used this system in Italy! I included an extra of the can. Still plenty of figs to pick. I experimented with fig/applesauce and found a good combination using more apples than figs. No extra sugar needed! More to be made and frozen, then enjoyed through the winter. You can see how dry the field is and some of the trees that are dying along the edge of our place.
Kalyn's SFU volleyball team photo has been posted and so has her individual photo and info. The team leaves to play in Hawaii next Tuesday then goes to California after that. First home games are the first week in September once classes start. She'll know after Hawaii if she'll be red-shirting, but we plan to go to the first home games no matter what.
If you aren't familiar with the term "red-shirting", it means that a player practices with the team but doesn't play in games. Players only have 4 years of eligibility and it will take her 5 years to complete her degree, so she's fine with red-shirting this year and playing the following 4 years - or with playing this year and the next 3 but not in her 5th year.
She didn't get #17 this year but the coach has guaranteed that she'll get it next year when the player who now has it graduates! #17 was G's number which Kalyn has taken over and used for most of her athletic career - with Gramps' approval, of course!
