The Wedding Present

it's probably the first time in about 20-25 years that I've left a concert with a ringing in my ears. The cause of the ringing is probably the few minutes of feedback that separates the songs 'Lovenest' and 'Corduroy' on The Wedding Present's 'Seamonsters' album which the band played in its entirety tonight.

'Seamonsters' is my favourite Wedding Present album, and although I'm not a huge fan of bands performing their 'classic albums' from start to finish (plus the fact that only one member of the band that performed on the album is playing tonight), I had to see it. To be fair, they mostly did it justice, there were only a few moments that fell flat. It was, as singer David Gedge pointed out, an 'intense' album (and we, apparently, are 'an intense crowd').

Gedge also mentioned that the first time they ever performed the album, it was here in Birmingham, in 1991, their support act - playing their first UK gig, was Stereolab! So, here's a clip (from an awful TV programme) of one of my favourite records
