Venice - day 1
Luke arrived home late last night and I was very grateful that he had done most of his washing at the AirBnB where he was staying in Vienna, so he could unpack and repack for our family holiday. We still got to bed quite late and then we were all up so early this morning - thankfully we had an uneventful flight to Venice without any problems.
From the airport we got a water taxi to the hotel (we had so much baggage that it would have been too cumbersome to use another mode of transport). Venice was sunny and really hot, about 30C. We had a light lunch and then set off exploring Venice. As expected it was so different from when I was here in January, there are so many tourists (surprisingly mainly Brits) and it is very crowded. I got to know Venice quite well from my last trip so I led the family through a very crowded St Marks Square and we walked to Rialto Bridge. This is the view from the bridge, and in the extras is the view looking in the other direction.
On a summer holiday with a family I won't have time to get the more arty type of photos that I got on my last trip, especially as summer is not a great time for photos with that bright light. However I liked the light in my extra photo, of Adam in the water taxi.
We had a good walk to the restaurant for supper - the food was okay....the waitress told us that Italy is having a shortage of fish at the moment...at least I think that is what she said. Tomorrow we must find a better place for supper, with more man sized portions!
