Smoke across the bay

The province has declared a state of emergency because of the wildfire situation. I walked down to Burgoyne this morning to check out the view over to Vancouver Island.  Although it's a little less hazy from smoke today, there's still plenty around and the air quality advisory remains in effect.  Extra is of the fallen oak tree in a very dry field.  
People in the small community up north where we used to live have been evacuated.  They're in our thoughts for sure, and so far all our friends are safe.
Some scary statistics from the Vancouver Sun:
"• As of Tuesday, there were 566 wildfires burning across the province, 31 of those started on Tuesday.
• Currently 29 evacuation orders are in effect for 3,050 people.
• Another 48 evacuation alerts means another 18,720 people should be prepared to evacuate at a moment’s notice if the fires spread.
• There are 3,372 firefighters and contractors actively fighting the blazes. (Some 436 are from other provinces and parts of the world, including Alberta, New Brunswick, Northwest Territories, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Parks Canada, Australia, Mexico and New Zealand.)
• Last summer’s state of emergency due to wildfires was in effect from July 7 through Sept. 15, a total of 10 weeks.
• Before last year’s declaration, the most recent state of emergency was in August 2003. A state of emergency declaration due to wildfires was also declared in 1996."
