Lunch at the South Pole Inn. This pub belonged to Tom Crean and it contains a lot of memorabilia.
Tom Crean was an Irish seaman and Antarctic explorer (25 February 1877 – 27 July 1938). He survived for months trapped on the ice floes after the ship was crushed and journeyed with Shackleton and four others, in a 21-foot lifeboat, across the South Atlantic (800 miles) to get help for the people left behind. He was awarded the Albert Medal.
Today was another grey, wet day, but it cleared for a short while after lunch, and I was able to get in a spot of bird watching. Lots of stonechats around these parts, but I haven’t been able to get a close-up shot yet.
