Army Cycling Corps

This flower bed in the Abbey Gardens at Bury St Edmunds is remembering the Army Cycling Corps from the first world war.  These cyclists would run messages to and from the front line and must have been very exposed to the enemy at times.  My maternal grandfather 17416 Pte H. S. Bird was in the Army Cycling Corps and was stationed near Arras in Northern France.  I have his war medals at home.
