Hobbs's Run

Harsh

I spent some time over this exposure to make it as accurate as possible sooc. This is a close up of the paddock that I shot from a nearby hill a few days back. It is half way through August and two weeks away from official spring here in New South Wales. It is 4:00 pm and already the harsh light of the summer to be is making itself evident.

There is little grass on offer for stock. This is partly because of the drought and partly because (quite frankly) this area has been carrying too much stock for the conditions.

The dams, though hardly full, do retain useful water supply for some months yet. I have to tell you that in the drier western parts of the state, there is no grass in the paddocks at all and the stock animals are dying. The dams are simply empty and if good rain does not come soon, agriculture in vast areas of the inland state will simply cease and families that have belonged to their properties for many generations will be forced to walk away.
