Common Enchantments

I can see now!

Way back in the late 80s and early 90s, I loved to make cross stitched art.  I don't even know how many I did because most of them were for gifts but a few are still around the house that I had framed and hung up ( but since photography happened, these have come down and are in the closet!).

I had a small decorative chest in the spare bedroom that the granddaughter said she would like to have for her dorm room..to use as a table by her bed and for some storage which is the same thing I used it for.    Storage was for all my cross stitch threads and patterns.

I cleaned the chest out this morning, throwing away a good bit of paper patterns that were falling apart.  I still have so many skeins of thread.   But I also found this sampler that I was working on years ago.     The reason it was never finished is because my eyes changed and I could not see the little squares and the pattern at the same time.  If I looked at the pattern, then I could not find the holes on the fabric and reverse.  I kept losing my place so I put it up.  Reading glasses did not help.  I wear contacts so I just gave up.    When my eyes changed again, I tried to work on it more..I got the grasshopper and the fish done, then it was just too hard to adjust my eyes.    Now I can see close up better without the contacts so I am going to take a stab at finishing this.

Unfortunately, it is on the stack of "things to do!"    Maybe I will work on it an hour once or twice a week.  I really want to finish it.

Does anybody do cross stitch anymore?  We had a wonderful shop here in town that was around for a long time.  They finally closed up just last year but they also had knitting, crocheting, tatting and other kinds of hand made art which is probably why they have been around so long.

Thanks for all the love on my little baby donkey photo yesterday.
