Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Birthday!

Internet connection only in the wee tiny bar, so I gave up! We're out in the sticks here.

We had the most wonderful meal last night - three courses on the menu, but with surprise little delightful 'amuse-bouches' between courses. And the most divine desserts!

JR was thoroughly spoiled with all her presents this morning, She then went to have a shower, but turned it into a steam room (by accident), and couldn’t turn it off. The whole bathroom was full of hot steam. And the bathroom is about as big our kitchen! The receptionist came and couldn’t turn it off. The chap in the Harris Tweed trousers and waistcoat managed. Just turn the power off. Duh!

After a super breakfast, we set off back along the six mile single track road by the loch, which was like a mirror. But there were not many places to stop to take photos.

We headed for Loch Kathrine, Glasgow's water supply, and went out for a boat ride. The next sailing of the famous refurbished 'Sir Walter Scott' was in a couple of hours, so we just went on the 'Lady of the Lake'. We saw the same views, though the former went further up the lake than we did. But we did see Ben Lomond, the most southerly Munro.

The weather was cool but eventually reached 20°. The Trossachs are just the best place for tootling around - winding roads, mountains, lochs, the occasional wee village. Cannae beat it.

Back to the hotel, and after a snooze, we had a game of boules, then we took a wee dander down the hill. I wanted to reach the wee loch but some Highland cattle were in our way, and in fact, started coming towards us, so we beat a hasty retreat.

The hotel is VERY busy this evening. I think they're pleased we're not dining here tonight.
