Middleton Hall

It said Middleton Hall was closed to the public on their website. It wasn’t true, but it kept the visitors away. There was only one other person in the house and gardens and the weather was breathtakingly beautiful.

Of course, I went in search of butterflies as the Big Butterfly Count draws to a close. Usually there are lots of Peacocks, Small Tortoiseshells and Red Admirals but in spite of well tended buddleias, there were none this year.

I saw one Comma rushing by just as I prepared to leave, but apart from two Meadow Browns, there were only a handful of whites. Seriously scary.

I spent a happy time sitting by their lake, under the glorious sky. In my blip, it’s not a low flying aircraft, it’s a huge dragonfly ! Kath, you’d have loved it.
