Showtime

I went to the Dounby show this morning to help out on a charity stall; it's the largest of the 'regional' shows here, & is a local holiday. The prize toys on this stall were very large, and fairly hideous, although the alligators and geckos were quite impressive. I was intrigued by the win ratio for a profit margin...any odd number wins a prize, giving a child the impression that there's a 50/50 chance of winning. Given the cost of the prizes, stall fees and the cost of transporting everything here, I'm amazed that they can make a profit. And there were quite a few winners in the time I was watching.

On the way to dancing in the evening we saw the funfair being transported to the park for the County Show on Saturday, which traditionally marks the end of summer, as days start to get noticeably shorter.
