Chalk river
A combination of factors meant that I didn't get the camera out yesterday. After a day spent finishing a report and sorting out some other admin, Pete and I drove down to Swindon in the evening, so that we could be ready for a day recording quadrats in a grassland next to this very attractive chalk river.
When we arrived at the site we were horrified to see that most of it had already been cut for hay, which required a rapid rethink of our approach. Despite the constraints we managed to accumulate a reasonable amount of data. But by the end of the afternoon I was beginning to flag - the after effects of last week's stomach bug are lingering.
We managed to leave the site just before a huge cloudburst - the rain was so torrential that all the traffic in Swindon had slowed down to about 10 miles an hour. The journey back was uneventful but uncomfortable. It felt so good to be home, with the added bonus that Alex had cooked a tasty chicken and peanut stew with rice and kale, which actually went down remarkably well and didn't have any negative repercussions!
