A whale’s tale

Today we had a fairly early start of the day as we were booked on a whale watching tour from Dalvik at 11 am, which is about 1.5 hrs away from our guesthouse. Unfortunately when we arrived at 10.45 they said they had to cancel this tour as this would normally be on a small boat and the sea swell would just be too much. We could still go out on the 12 o’clock tour ad that would be a larger boat or come back on another day. We decided to wait and go out at 12. We already spotted a nice cafe that served good coffee and cake ;-)
So then our tale of the whale started...
Just before 12 o’clock all passengers were given warm and waterproof overalls to ensure we would stay warm (remember 5 degrees Centigrade and an arctic gale is bone chilling cold indeed). After going out onto the fjord (Eyjafjördur) the crew and passengers were on the lookout for whales or porpoises. Just of the coast of the island in the fjord we spotted a big humpback whale feeding - awesome! We then moved a bit more to the middle of the fjord and saw a small group of 3 (varying in size) humpback whales. This is the tale of the biggest of that small group. Awesome experience!
