Another wet day so decided to take Mum and Dad to Carlisle. It was their first visit to Bookcase and I was worried that I might lose them in its labyrinthine passages.My favourite department is in the basement, where the children's books lead to the LP rooms. The shelves of vinyl are stored in a strongroom. The door is propped open but I still vaguely worry that it might swing shut and my cries would go unheard.

Thankfully my fears were unfounded. Here are a row of Ladybird books, a whiff of nostalgia. I nearly bought " British birds and their nests" but decided to save it for another day...
