Deja Vu

weird experience this morning doing my volunteering at New Lanark search room. the next set of photos in line for cataloguing were internal photos of the restoration of one of the houses - which just happened to be John's house until 4 years ago! The photos were taken in 1981 when the house had just been finished. In the late 1970s the Conservation Trust sold off the shells of the 10 houses in the Row under a 'restorer-purchaser' scheme, whereby the buyers carried out the internal restoration to their own specificiations - within the constraints of planning and listed building consents.

John's house was originally restored by an architect, and it was his interior design that I was cataloguing today. He happened to be one of John's business partners in Glasgow, and by 1988 he had four children under 6 in a four storey house with no garden as such, just the common green at the back, so he bought a house in Lanark and sold the one in the village to John and his wife Lorraine, and Iain, who was only months old. Little did we know then how things would turn out for us!!!

horrible rainy day, hence this indoor blip. been writing minutes of the meeting from last night, John is glueing something or other, Katie is in the living room on yet another business call, and I think some afternoon scones are called for.

Katie and I are heading into Glasgow later to see daughter #2, Sally, have some food, then collect Iain from the bowling and head home.
