The view from above
About every four to six weeks a group of us expat moms get together for Frühstück (breakfast)*. This is our favourite place to meet, Villa Landleben, although it's very popular and we have to book.
The food was, as ever, delicious. How can you go wrong with an endless selection of meats and cheeses, fresh bread rolls, fruit, smoked salmon, tomato, mozzarella, coffee, prosecco...you get the picture. And the company was, as ever...boisterous. We are, as a group of two Yanks & four Brits** louder than the average group of Germans, I swear today I could feel them scowling. We never set out to be loud but when one person started talking about the possibilities of bringing a Beefeater back from our girlie trip to London in two weeks time then of course the conversation level slipped somewhat.
* in England we'd have met for coffee or lunch, but the schooling system here doesn't really let that work, seeing as the kids are often home at 12!
** the numbers and nationalities vary from breakfast to breakfast, but it usually takes a serious/life threatening illness to keep one of us away from the girlie breakfast club.
