Reach For The Stars

The recently unveiled statue of David 'Bomber' Pearce is situated on Riverside, Newport (Wales, UK) of his home city. David became British Boxing Heavyweight champion (Sept 1983) but was forced to give up his promising career when he suffered epilepsy. He died on 20 May 2000 from sudden adult death syndrome, aged 41.

His most famous quote on winning the title "I did it for Newport".

I met him a couple of times; always surrounded by welsh wishers.
