Pendle Hill

Cracking local walk today. Just Me and Mrs Wild, as No 2 son is poppy selling with the Air Cadets.

The view is of Pendle Hill, infamous for it's history of witch craft with the medieval town of Clitheroe at it's foot. What is more interesting is that the countryside around this part of Lancashire is said to be the inspiration for Middle Earth and JRR Tolkien's literary works. He taught at the nearby Roman Catholic Independant School of Stoneyhurst College and you could well image him viewing such a scene as this and dreaming up his mythical world.
