This is a statue of Friedrich Engels rescued by British artist Phil Collins from the Ukraine and brought to Manchester, the city which gave birth to his epic work, 'The Condition of the Working Class in England'.We may not  have quite yet sunk to the worst excesses of 19th Century Capitalism, but in an era of food banks, heartbreaking child poverty and homelessness, the UK is heading that way fast with mass unemployment and precarious work practices  disguised by bogus job statistics.
