Summer Rain
Summer's two or so years of life have been difficult. By the bite scars on her face and legs and her canines having been filed down, we presume that she was most likely used as a 'bait dog' in a dog fighting ring. She has also been bred, who knows how many times. When Summer entered our
Paws on Parole program she was very timid, shy and basically 'shut down' as dogs who have suffered great trauma sometimes are. An inmate named Stephen has been working with her and she is finally coming out of her shell. She is now friendly but still very reserved.
Today, at our Meet & Greet, Summer met a young woman who will change her life! She loved Summer from the moment she saw her, and Summer made it a point to lie down as close as she could get to the woman. I heard the woman whisper to Summer, "I love you because of your scars!" Both the physical and emotional ones. Sweet Summer has four more weeks of training before 'Graduation' and then she'll be going Home!
My heart is full! :) If you are considering a new Best Friend, please remember Summer's story.
