Desperate Defence

This an Osprey, one of several now finding their feet on Rutland Water, after a re-introduction project which has been rather successful, I gather.

But the Tern (I think) is doing its best to distract the bird of prey from finding its eggs, I suppose.  It's a brave little bird and I think that it was successful: although the Osprey stooped soon afterwards, it recovered from its dive before reaching the surface.

Extra: Rutland Water is rather beautiful, both for its place as a wildlife sanctuary and for its amenity to humans.  Here is the remains (top part) of Normanton Church, almost lost in the flooding of the Gwash valley in 1970s, being used for a wedding.
