Red Hot poker!
Spotted this flash of colour while out for a walk this evening. I couldn't see what it was when I first saw it, as it was lying ababdpned in the middle of a patch of grass. The colours looked almost fluorescent in the evening light. Glad it wasn't a snake though!
Seeing it closer to, the colours are still remarkable. I presume somebody no longer has this prize specimen in their garden.
When I was on Iona, 5 weeks ago, the red hot pokers were in full bloom and a favourite food source for the sparrows and the chaffinches. They were performing remarkable acrobatics on the flower heads.
