Unexpected visit to The Historic Dockyard at Chatham today and a Ropery tour. At a quarter of a mile long and the oldest commercial ropery still operating in England it’s truly breathtaking. The smell of hemp and wood combined with the sight of the ropes, bicycles and workers’ bell is like stepping back in time.
