I went to visit a friend today, he’s claiming asylum and lives in a share house in Manchester. I noticed it had a cellar so I asked if we could go down (as much as I hate cold, dark, damp spaces, they make me curious).

I expected an empty, damp, dark space with a dodgy light...and what I found was something far more special.

How many cellars still have some of their old features? So I told him how once upon a time people used to live in cellars, sometimes families of 10-12 people. As he comes from Sudan he was interested and rather shocked.
