Relics

Yesterday I came across this little book of gospel/protest/folk songs while looking for something else, and it took me back to the late 60s when my friend Gill taught me to play guitar.

The book contains the words, music and (most importantly for me back then) guitar chords for such classics as "Lord of the Dance", "Amazing Grace" and "There But for Fortune" that have stood the test of time.

There is one simple song, however, written by Sydney Carter in 1963, that Gill and I played and sang a lot because the chords were simple, though even then there was a pause between each chord change! It's called "I want to have a little bomb like you", described as "a satirical song about the frightening spread of nuclear weapons", and it mentions Charles de Gaulle, Mao Tse Tung and Moscow! The names may have changed over the years, but the message in the song is still the same!

The other relics in the blip are the guitar, bought when I lived in Barcelona in the early 70s, and the macramé strap made by me during a 'crafty' phase about the same time.

Look how much the book cost back then!
