Impressionists & Irreverence

Today we decided to escape the heat and humidity by visiting Boston's Museum of Fine Arts to see their "French Pastels Treasures From The Vault" exhibit.  Treasures there were, indeed!  Degas, Cassatt, Monet, Millet, Renoir, Pissarro, and several other famous Impressionists were on view.

I particularly liked this lovely Degas pastel, Dancers Resting.  The other piece of art shown here is Millet's Path Through The Wheat ... and it is here that the irreverence kicks in, I'm afraid.  Both Mr. W and I simultaneously started to chuckle as we looked at this work because it reminded us very strongly of Andrew Wyeth's famous painting, Christina's World ... except this is clearly the scene before the farmhand has mowed down the wheat in order to find Christina hiding there on the hillside!  After tittering for a short time, we removed ourselves to the museum's restaurant, where we regained our composure over a delicious crab cake lunch.
