First Snow of (almost) Winter
Here is a familiar view of my young red oak tree and the tall grasses now with a light, wet snow cover this a.m. Those of you growing tall grasses (you know who you are!) can see what happened in this garden.
This year has been different for the grasses. I think that they may not have had the inner strength going into fall to maintain flexibility because they experienced drought for the month of August. I have already trimmed the outer edges of one bunch because of collapse on a windy day. If they do not spring back up, which they normally do, I'll just let them look like this until early spring when all the tall grasses get trimmed way down to allow for new growth.
Perhaps these grass 'humps' will allow little wildlife creatures places to hide.
