Verdant Works
Had a day out in Dundee, to visit the Verdant Works museum of the jute industry. This tells the story of the entire process from harvest of the plant in what is now Bangladesh, and from the receipt of the fibre in bales to the finished woven or rope product. there were plenty of friendly, informative, guides and a super wee cafe.
While there we learned of Cox's Stack (see extra 1), built for Camperdown Works in Lochee, 1865-66 and standing 282ft tall, so made our way there to admire it in splendid isolation.
From there we visited the SS Discovery spending a couple of hours in the museum and on the ship itself (extras 2 & 3) before pottering home via an excellent meal in The Crees Inn in Abernethy.
