Flying
A spectacularly successful day with one of my clients. They’ve built a simulation in Excel which takes 45 seconds to run. Over the last few weeks, using a framework I’ve built for them, they’ve re-coded it in Python, and it runs in 9 seconds. A factor of five improvement. They’re happy, but it’s not good enough. In the 11 am meeting I undertake to take a look. Shortly after lunch, I’ve got the run-time down to 0.009 seconds, a whopping 1000 times faster.
The architectural simplifications afforded by being able to run their slowest simulation so fast are significant.
I’ve earned my fee.
The evening is spent playing Lego with the kids, and twenty minutes with Freya assembling the drone. Dr. Liz sits quietly in her corner and reads papers.
