Cabanyal, Valencia

Today's blip is a mish mash of close-ups of the buildings in the area of Valencia where we are staying. It is called The Cabanyal and is famous for the multicoloured tiles that adorn the houses. Tradionally these were built many years ago to house the fishermen. The area has been mired in controversy as the former mayor of Valencia threatened to flatten the whole area to make way for a dual carriageway. The local community rose up in defence of their community and managed to save their houses but it caused a fair bit of resentment on both sides.
We spent the morning on the beach followed by a lazy afternoon pottering around the local area. It is very charming though there are some grunge parts of the area which are run down.
