Ride Sally Ride!
How nice to be sitting at home with the gig done. So many of our gigs we wouldn't have even started yet.
We were on the Den at Teignmouth at 11.30 this morning to do our soundcheck. The sound guys were still setting mic stands and stuff by 12.15 there still weren't any leads in the mics but no sweat, once they were all in we were able to get on with a comprehensive soundcheck.
I always worry a bit when we're not in control of the sound, it does make for a lot of hard work but you know exactly where you are with your own PA. We've often been let down by sound guys who don't take the trouble to get it right. Maybe they get the sound right out the front but you can't be confident about what you're doing unless the foldback (the monitors that let you hear what you're doing) is set up and managed well. These guys were great, the took a lot of time and trouble to get it right and they couldn't have done a better job.
We were just waiting for the crowning of the Carnival Queen to finish before we started and unfortunately it was then that the heaven's opened! The Carnival Queen and Princess came into the marquee to have their official photos taken. All the rest of the people who were outside came in too, just as we were about to start, so we had a full house.
We romped into our set and with it sounding good we were full of confidence and did a great job. I'm not saying we were perfect all the way through but I reckon the things that did go wrong were probably only noticeable to us. The crowd seemed to be having a great time and they stayed with us when the rain stopped.
Whenever I blip a Bishopsteignton Commitments gig it get's the title 'Ride Sally Ride'. I got Roger to take some pics that I may be able to use for website & Facebook publicity. He got some super shots and I like this one taken from the side of the stage. It's taken as our first number, 'Treat Her Right' was ending with a rousing chorus of Hey, Hey, Hey!s going on.You can see a few more here or on the Facebook link if you wish.
