St Bene't's Church

Built about 1,000 and 1050 AD, it is the oldest building in Cambridge. The tower is Anglo-Saxon, and the church was named after the Anglo-Norman name, Benet and Saint Benedict. Some time ago, our council were told to remove all apostrophes from street signs, as they were informed that people would be confused and not understand them ! After they had done this, a team of grammar campaigners secretly painted them back in. The council apologised for following this bureaucratic rule and made new signs.
